Although it is not a Shrine Club, the
Singles Group is an invaluable member of our Shrine Family whose dedication and
support is greatly appreciated.
The
"Al Menah Singles Group" was founded by Dorris B. Calvin and Nadine
Mason in February 2000.
The group was
organized to provide fellowship for Al Menah's extended family of active members
who have contributed to the Temple through many years of service and now
find themselves alone. Each person in the group has shared the unifying
experience of having lost their marital partner. Planned as a social group,
meetings, parties and frequent trips compose the major focus of the programs.
In order to
qualify for membership, a person must be a single member of Al Menah Shrine
Center or the unmarried widow of a deceased Al Menah Shriner who was a member in
good standing at the time of his death. Through the years and due to the need
for addition people to fill trip requirements, the Group has established the
Associate Member classification. Associate Members are Shriners and their
ladies who enjoy the meeting fellowship and travel. They have no vote in the
business of the Group but are a very valuable resource in reaching the Group
goals.
The dues are
only $24.00 a year. A mere $2.00 a month for some great fellowship!
Meetings are, for the most part, on the first Saturday
of each month starting at noon with a pot luck meal, followed by a short
business meeting and ending with several tables of card playing.
